On Thursday this week teachers are attending a paid union meeting in the afternoon....please make sure you have given details of pick up to room 15 teacher!

Unprecedented combined meetings of 60,000 PPTA and NZEI Te Riu Roa members begin around the country next week.

Educators from early childhood to secondary schooling are uniting to respond to the government’s proposal for Global Funding, saying it is a return to Bulk Funding and could result in fewer teachers and larger class sizes.

The government has also refused to explore any increase in funding for education.

Meetings will be held between 5 and 16 September, from Kaitaia to Invercargill, starting in Auckland on the 5th

Children’s learning is under attack at the moment

The Government is proposing to bring back bulk funding for schools, redistribute special education funding, open up American-style online schools to compete with our public schools and throw more money at the failed charter schools experiment!
But hope is on the way.
Next week NZEI Te Riu Roa and PPTA members are joining forces to take an historic stand for better funding and defending our public education system.

Willow's pirate from her reading task

Family and Whanau,
This week at school we are making paper planes and measuring how far they can fly. We will be holding an air-show on Friday to see which plane can fly the furthest. Ask your child to show you the design they are using for their plane and help them experiment with things that may make the plane go further. Run some trials at home estimating how far the plane flew each time.

This term we are doing stitchery and as you can imagine it is a task that requires many extra hands. We are intending to make a shared quilt with the focus on things that fly. If anyone can offer an hour or two on a Friday morning (between 9.00-11.00 ) we would be very grateful. You DO NOT need any skills apart from threading a needle, tying knots and a little patience. Just let us know a time and date. Many thanks in advance.

last week we had 2 sessions on the life ed truck about behaviour, the green line and what are good behaviours and not so good.

dr and j Lego City   written by Jed
At my house I made lego city. It has a lego building and a lego fire station. The fire station has a fire boat and a fire helicopter and a fire engine in the building. On the sixth story there is a café. On the fifth story there is a kindy and on the fourth story there is a school. On the third story there is a work place. On the second story there is a train station.
“We are going to the fire station.”
“No, we are going to the new school.”
“First we are going on a bus,” said the teacher.
“Ok’” said John, “we are on the bus.”
“We are here and I did not bring my lunch box. We are going to have a picnic. I have got some food. The school bus is here. We are going to go back to school, but if there is a fire, run out.”
 “There is a fire!”
“OK! Then let me call the fire station on my phone. Jump on the bus if you want to see the fire, but we’re going to stay on the bus so we cannot see the fire.”
“We can turn around the corner,” said the teacher.
“OK,” said Sam.
“Wow!” said John.
“That is a big fire,” said Jack.
“Neena,” goes the fire engine. The fire engine is very big and the ladder can go up to the school. There is a lot of water. The fire is out!
 “Yah!”
“Now we can go to the fire station.”
“Who wants to go to the fire station and who wants to go in the helicopter?”
 “Helicopter!” shouted the kids.
We are at the fire station and we have seen all the fire equipment.
